Labral Tear / Repair
The labrum is a type of cartilage that surrounds the inside of a ball and socket joint and is found in both the hip and the shoulder. It forms a ring around the socket and helps provide stability to the joint by deepening the socket and allowing flexibility and motion.
Labral Tear: A person may tear a labrum with repetitive use and activity or by a more traumatic means like a fall or accident.
Some typical symptoms are groin pain, clicking and snapping in the hip and even limited motion.
Often with surgery a hip arthroscopy is done which is when the doctor will insert a small camera in the area to shave and clean the torn labrum. Recovery from surgery is around 6 to 12 weeks and physical therapy will begin immediately after.
