Patellar Tendonitis
Patellar Tendonitis, also called jumpers knee, is inflammation of the patellar tendon. It is often caused from over use of the knee and is very common in people that are in sports that cause them to do a lot of jumping but is also seen in runners and in other sports like soccer.
A person will feel pain below the knee cap on the patellar tendon. Putting pressure on this area will be painful and swelling around the area is also common. You could also feel pain during activities.
Treatment:
Resting your knee and avoiding activities that cause more pain will help patellar tendonitis.
Ice will also help bring down inflammation of the tendon and reduce swelling of the knee.
After consulting with your physician, anti-inflammatory medications might be something to consider also.
Working with a physical therapist to work on a strengthening and stretching routine will also be very helpful in preventing this from happening again.
